NEW DELHI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May. 31, 2012-- According to a new study commissioned by Dell, the ideal country to be in if you’re a woman starting a business in 2012 could well be India, the location of its upcoming Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network (DWEN) event taking place in New Delhi, June 17-19, 2012.

At the event, Dell will be releasing the results of its Women’s Global Entrepreneurship Study, examining indicators of business confidence among women entrepreneurs in different countries, along with their motivations, financing options and sources of support.

Early results show tremendous optimism on the part of women entrepreneurs in India. When asked about expectations for business growth, women entrepreneurs in India anticipate an average of 90 percent growth over the next five years. When you consider that India has a projected GDP growth rate of 8.2 percent in 2011-2012, according to the Indian Economic Outlook Report, women entrepreneurs in India have good reason to be feeling bullish.

Previous DWEN events in Shanghai (2010) and Rio de Janeiro (2011) brought together female global entrepreneurs to share best practices, build business opportunities and celebrate female influence in the global economy. Together, DWEN members and Dell chose India for this exclusive event because of its role as one of the largest emerging markets, as well as its influence on the world of technology.

Host Moira Forbes, publisher of Forbes Woman, will lead the two-day event around the theme “Innovation through Collaboration.” The agenda is structured as an exchange of ideas between female founders, CEOs, innovative leaders, business icons, experts and thought leaders who run businesses in top markets. With speakers representing Canada, the United States, Brazil, China, Japan, Australia, India, the United Kingdom, France and Germany, the Dell Women’s Entrepreneur Network will address topics such as doing business in India, social entrepreneurship and strategic giving, sustainability, customer engagement, social media strategy, going global, and more. Dell Women’s Global Entrepreneurship Study, Key Findings:

The agenda for the event will be supported by data uncovered as part of the Dell Women’s Global Entrepreneurship Study, which highlights positive growth trends for female entrepreneurs in India including:

Business is Booming: 71 percent of female entrepreneurs in India say their business is very successful, and eight in 10 female entrepreneurs in India say they are hiring. Opportunity for Technology: 74 percent of female entrepreneurs in India say their technology needs are getting more complex. Western Canadian Shipbuilding Summit

The Western Canadian Shipbuilding Summit, hosted by Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) and Seaspan Marine Corporation on May 23, 2012 in Vancouver, brings together small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with key stakeholders of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS).

The summit provides western Canadian SMEs the opportunity to connect with key shipbuilding players, while allowing a sharing of information on key elements of the NSPS and the opportunities it presents for Western Canada's shipbuilding industry. The summit includes presentations by Seaspan Marine Corporation, Irving Shipbuilding, WD, NSPS Secretariat, the Shipbuilding Association of Canada, Industry Canada, Lloyds Registry of Canada, among others, and concludes with a networking reception.

This event marks an important step in the implementation of the Harper Government's 30-year, $33 billion National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy. Economic Action Plan 2012 highlighted Western Canada's Shipbuilding Action Plan, which will support western businesses in taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the Strategy.

Summit Participants at a Glance

The nearly 600 participants representing approximately 360 businesses (including about 320 that have offices or are based in western Canada) at the Summit offer a wide range of expertise and services that will be required under the shipbuilding strategy, including:

-- Design-- Integration technology-- Parts supply-- Fabrication-- Machining-- Coatings-- Safety products-- Electronics

What is Western Canada's Shipbuilding Action Plan?

Western Canada's Shipbuilding Action Plan was launched in February 2012 and is a concrete step towards making Western Canada's shipbuilding industry internationally competitive and sustainable.

As outlined in Economic Action Plan 2012, Western Canada's Shipbuilding Action Plan will:

-- Ensure that small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have all the information they need to take advantage of opportunities arising from the building of federal ships;-- Promote the active participation of small- and medium-sized businesses in the supply chains that will result from the building of the ships;-- Create economic growth and highly-skilled jobs throughout the region.

Over the coming months and years, WD will undertake a number of activities to support business, including:

-- Shipbuilding Bootcamps - WD will host Shipbuilding Bootcamps across Western Canada to help businesses navigate federal procurement processes and prepare them to take advantage of these new opportunities.-- Supplier Development Tours - WD will lead tours that showcase Western Canada's shipbuilding capabilities and link western businesses to key decision makers.-- Investment - WD has invested over $1 million to support the training of highly skilled workers in British Columbia. The Department will continue to examine opportunities for investment that will further develop and grow Western Canada's shipbuilding industry.-- Advocacy - WD will act as the champion for Western Canada's shipbuilding industry, promoting its strengths ensuring its long-term competitiveness.

Businesses or individuals can register on the WD website (www.wd-deo.gc.ca) to receive updated information related to WD shipbuilding activities.

More on the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy:

The National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy's selection of the two shipyards represents the largest procurement sourcing arrangement in Canadian history. Irving Shipbuilding Inc. has been selected to build the combat vessel work package, and Seaspan's Vancouver Shipyards Co. Ltd. has been selected to build the non-combat vessel work package. The Strategy is expected to create thousands of high-value jobs across the country and will have significant economic benefits in shipbuilding and related industries across Canada. The total value of both packages is $33 billion and will span 20 to 30 years.

Sharing the wealth: Procurement fair seeks to match small businesses with big opportunities - Memphis Commercial Appeal

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen sponsored a procurement fair Monday at the FedEx Institute of Technology at the University of Memphis.

Small business can mean big dollars, at least for savvy entrepreneurs who bid on and win lucrative government contracts.

To help local small-business owners capitalize on the process, U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen on Monday sponsored a procurement fair at the FedEx Institute of Technology to explain the process. More than 150 area entrepreneurs were on hand for the public forum.

Leslie Shankman-Cohn (left) and Jill Hertz, with Jill Hertz Interior Design, were among more than 150 entrepreneurs at the fair. Photo by Mike Brown

Leslie Shankman-Cohn (left) and Jill Hertz, with Jill Hertz Interior Design, were among more than 150 entrepreneurs at the fair.

In addition, representatives from nine federal agencies discussed offerings and options available to small-business owners who are interested in becoming government vendors.

"The federal footprint and its potential impact on small businesses is significant," said Eric Terrell, customer service director at the U.S. General Services Administration. "The government spends more than $600 billion every year on goods and services. How can you not tap into that?"

Saundra Jackson, state deputy director for the U.S. Small Business Administration, agreed.

"The government buys everything from paper clips to armored tanks, so there's a good chance that whatever goods or services you're selling, the government buys it," Jackson said. "Nearly 25 percent of the government's purchasing is targeted to small firms, so we encourage owners to learn the system and become involved in it."

The problem many small-business owners face is not knowing what's out there, Cohen said.

For example, fewer than 50 vendors in Memphis have secured government contracts to provide IT services, but thousands of those contracts are awarded every year. Other needs include food vending services, office furnishings and floor coverings, facilities maintenance and management, and advertising and integrated marketing solutions.

Monday's event followed the recent announcement that Memphis will be home to the state's first Minority Development Business Agency center -- funded by a $1 million federal grant to be paid out over four years -- that is set to open in about six weeks. It will be housed Downtown at the Mid-South Minority Business Council Continuum's small-business incubator at 158 Madison.

Minority and female business owners are encouraged to contact MMBCC leaders at (901) 525-6512 to learn more about accessing government contracts, said Luke Yancy III, president and CEO of the MMBCC. And all small-business owners should contact the local SBA office at (901) 526-9300, Jackson added, to find out about its free programs and how to work with federal agencies.

"Small businesses are the heart of our economy and of our middle class," Cohen said. "It's important to move forward and help those businesses grow and this is one way we're trying to do that."

The Business Finance Store Discusses Opportunities for Small Businesses to Grow and Create Jobs

The Business Finance Store discusses upcoming opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs to grow and create jobs.

Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) April 25, 2012

A recent study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation shows that the U.S. currently has some of the highest levels of entrepreneurship in 15 years, despite drops in the rate of business creation. Despite these findings, some would say there is a noticeable absence of truly innovative, successful entrepreneurship. However, there might be a positive in the future for small businesses and entrepreneurs. In the recent blog post “Entrepreneurs-- Are They All Gone?,” The Business Finance Store discusses upcoming opportunities for small businesses to grow and create jobs.
