UK keen to explore business potential in Rajkot: British Dy HC

Briefing media persons here this evening, the Dy High Commissioner said, ??We intend to expand the business from Gujarat?s Saurashtra and that is why we are here and Rajkot which has a twinning arrangement with Leicester and people from the region have strong links with the UK. Rajkot is one of the leading growth centres in Western India and the one where the UK hopes to increase its business presence and interests.?? Noting that Rajkot is an automobile hub, he said the UK is keen to explore the possibility of sourcing the business of the design of parts of the car and its components from here.

He further stated that there are many opportunities in the field of higher education and ''we need to expand in that area too''.

He observed that the Saurashtra region of Gujarat has made tremendous development since last couple of years and said there are enormous business opportunities.

The British Dy High Commissioner is leading a team comprising senior Trader and Investment Advisors from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) based in the British Dy High Commission in Mumbai and British Trade Office (BTO) in Ahmedabad as well as a Mumbai representative from International Business Wales.

The delegation in the evening met with representatives of leading companies, senior government officials and businessmen.

The British Dy High Commissioner also had an interaction with the members of Rajkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and the Rajkot Engineering Association (REA).

In reply to a query on exploring the business opportunities, he said, ''we intend to invite the businessmen from here to UK for expansion of the business.'' In reply to another query, he said ''I went to Jamnagar and had seen the Reliance Industries refinery there some time ago. I had also visited Baroda and Ahmedabad too.'' (UNI)
