Cambodia's US-Asean Business Forum Attracts Largest Ever US Business Delegation

Cambodia's US-Asean Business Forum Attracts Largest Ever US Business Delegation

SIEM REAP (Cambodia), July 13 (Bernama) -- The US-Asean Business Forum starting today has attracted the largest ever number of American business executives to seek business opportunities in Southeast Asian countries, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

The forum will bring together hundreds of cabinet ministers, senior policymakers and business leaders from the US and Asean member countries, to address the opportunities and challenges that will define the direction of future US-Asean economic cooperation, the US-Asean Business Council and the US Chamber of Commerce said in a press release here.

They said that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Myanmar President Thein Sein, and Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will attend the forum.

The forum will be a good opportunity for US business leaders to strengthen their economic ties with Asean and seek future economic cooperation between the US and Asean, the organisers said in the press release.

US business owners have begun to look into Asean business potentials after the Obama administration elevated US engagement across Asia as a strategic priority of its foreign policy.

"A central pillar of that strategy is to work more closely with Asean, to deepen our economic, strategic, and people-to-people engagement," Clinton had said on Wednesday at the fourth US-Asean Post-Ministerial Conference in Phnom Penh.

"The forum will be the largest ever delegation of American business executives to Cambodia, and it will be the first US-Asean Business Forum to lay the groundwork for economic connections and mutual prosperity for a long time to come.

"On the economic front, there is much more room for us to grow together, so we are working to foster more economic activity in very tangible ways," she said.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) members are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

UAE-Latvia Business Forum highlights investment opportunities - AME Info

The Latvian Prime Minister's statement came during his official visit to the first UAE-Latvia Business Forum organised by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with Investment Development Agency of Latvia at the Chamber headquarters on Monday.

The forum was attended by a large number of top officials representing a cross-section of private sector companies in Dubai as well as representatives of business councils and business groups operating under the umbrella of Dubai Chamber.

"I strongly believe that life is made of opportunities and this is our opportunity to develop close business ties that will contribute to prosperity of our two countries," said H.E. Valdis Dombrovskis.

"Latvia is a gateway to Western Europe, Scandinavian countries or Russia, depending from where you come and which way you want to go. Latvia is also a safe place to do business in," said the Latvian Prime Minister.

He added, "Last year, Latvia ranked 21st in the world according to World Bank's Doing Business index which measures the openness of business environment. With each year, the UAE is gaining more and more strength and influence in global economy and I believe there are many things our countries can share."

H.E. Valdis Dombrovskis informed that Latvia's main exports to UAE are machinery and electronics (66%), food products (14%), vehicles (6%), woodwork (5%) as well as chemical products and pharmacies (2%). In 2010 the total turnover of trade between Latvia and UAE was €22.2m ($30m) which is 80% more than in 2009.

In his welcome address, H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman, Dubai Chamber, urged the visiting Latvian business delegation to benefit from Dubai's lucrative investment opportunities, re-export facilities including world-class logistics and financial services as well as unconditional Government support.

"Dubai offers an East meets West location and easy access to regional markets of 2.2 billion consumers while Latvia, with its strategic location has established itself as an important crossroad for international trade and commerce hence we see a huge potential for businesses from both sides to work together and turn this opportunity to do better business in the future," said H.E. Al Ghurair.

The Chairman of Dubai Chamber further stressed that trade, including exports and re-exports, financial services, logistics and tourism are the driving forces of Dubai's economy, and urged the Latvian companies to invest in Dubai and take the two countries' economic ties to the next level.

"The exploring of the East European markets is part of a Dubai Chamber strategy which began with the recommendations of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and this UAE Latvia Business Forum is a step in that direction as we look at this as an opportunity to strengthen our economic ties and benefit from the investment potential offered by both the countries," added H.E. Al Ghurair.

In the first five months of 2011, Dubai's non-oil trade with Latvia valued at Dhs43.4m as the country ranked 123rd on the list of Dubai's top trading partners. Presently, there are a few Latvian partnership and ownership companies registered with Dubai Chamber, and there is tremendous scope for more investors to set up businesses in the Emirate, said H.E. Al Ghurair.

He informed that the exports and re-exports of Dubai Chamber members to Latvia in 2011 has grown by 101.4% as the value rose to Dhs17.8m compared to Dhs8.8m in 2010.

H.E. Daniels Pavluts, Latvian Minister of Economy, spoke about the business and investment opportunities in his country which was followed by a presentation on Latvia's key economic sectors including transportation and logistics, finance, biotechnology, agriculture and IT. On its part, Dubai Chamber also provided an introductory presentation about Dubai and its investment opportunities to the visiting business delegates.

The Honest Work From Home Success Forum Helps to Stop Rip-Off of Internet Workers

The Honest Work from Home Success Forum is playing its part in keeping the internet safe for online workers. People looking for genuine online business opportunities, help and information can find it at the forum.

Blackburn, UK (PRWEB) March 11, 2012

The HWFHS Forum is continuing its fight to make the internet a safer place in 2012. The introduction of a new “Scam Beware” section of the forum is proving to be incredibly popular with members. The section has already received several hundred posts and thousands of hits. The “Scam Beware” part of the forum has several sections where members of the forum can post warnings about potential scams and their experiences with them.

Paul Lynch the founder of the forum said “We are finding that many of our new members are coming to us having lost hundreds or even thousands of Dollars on internet scams”.

A recent report from the FTC in the USA has recently estimated that just 1 in every 55 work at home opportunities is legitimate. Several high profile cases in the US have resulted in companies being fined millions of Dollars and shut down. Some of the most common scams the FTC found online included business coaching, home crafting jobs, rebate processing and conducting internet searches.

New FTC guidelines for business opportunities came into place on March 1st 2012 with the aim of providing additional protection to consumers seeking to work from home. From this date people selling and promoting work at home business opportunities have to disclose a number of key facts. These include the sellers identifying information, refund policy, claims about earnings as well as previous legal action involving the seller.

Paul Lynch said “While the new guidelines are welcome the best thing consumers can do is research thoroughly before they give anyone a cent of their money”. He went on to say “Forums like ours offer people a safe community where they exchange ideas, experiences and opportunities safely with like-minded people”.

The Honest Work from Home Success Forum was established in 2008 by Paul Lynch. It offers its 30,000 + members a safe and secure environment for those looking for genuine business opportunities.

Next Generation Rail Supply Chain Forum Scheduled to Generate Business Opportunities for California Manufacturers

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- California Manufacturing Technology Consulting® (CMTC) and The Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (MANEX) announced today a special complimentary one-day forum to connect rail industry OEMs with U.S. suppliers in the manufacturing sector. The “Next Generation Supply Chain Connectivity Forum” will be held on February 8, 2012 at the Woodlake Hotel (formerly the Radisson) in Sacramento, CA. The Northern and Southern California Manufacturing Extension Partnership Centers, Manex and CMTC, are joining with the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Rail Administration, the U.S. Department of Commerce and CALTRANS to reach out and help facilitate connections for manufacturers in the State. The Forum is for manufacturers who are interested in growing their business by considering opportunities in the rail industry supply chain.

The Next Generation Rail Supply Chain Forum allows manufacturers the opportunity for one-on-one discussions with OEMs and to learn more about entering the rail industry supply chain in panel discussions. The forum concludes with a networking reception.

This Forum is the result of a partnership between the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to leverage agency capabilities to ensure the development of a domestic supply base to support intermodal transportation in the United States. The Forum is designed to attract U.S. manufacturers to the supply base for next generation rail equipment being procured in the U.S. The Forum represents an opportunity for manufacturers with capabilities that are potentially relevant to next generation rail to grow and diversify into this market.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded two grants to CALTRANS for a total of $168M (matched by $42M in State funds) for the purchase of 42 passenger cars and 6 locomotives. The new bi-level railcars will incorporate numerous design improvements and innovations, making the States’ rail passenger service more efficient, cost-effective and attractive to passengers. The CALTRANS RFI can be accessed from CMTC’s website.

“In this economy, it is vitally important for manufacturers to diversify their business into new areas to support growth in the State,” stated Jim Watson, President and CEO of CMTC. “Manufacturing plays an important economic role in the State’s economy since California has the largest concentration of manufacturers in the nation,” added Hank Holzapfel, President and CEO of Manex.
