The Roda Group Announces Two New Cleantech Investments - mOasis in Mountain View, California and Inventys Thermal ...

Press Release: The Roda Group – Fri, Jun 1, 2012 1:07 PM EDT

BERKELEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The Roda Group, the largest investor in the renewable oils company Solazyme (SZYM) and a venture capital group focusing on large-scale and lucrative business opportunities that address the issues of climate change, increasing demand for low carbon energy, and stress on the Earth’s natural resources, announced that it has invested in two new companies in the cleantech space.

mOasis has created a soil amendment product that increases crop yields while simultaneously reducing the need for fertilizer, water and water-related energy use. The product is a new type of hydrogel, a polymer known for its ability to absorb massive quantities of water. The mOasis product is able to enhance the amount of moisture and nutrients available to a plant’s root zone and significantly reduce water stress between rain or irrigation cycles. The company is led by Susanna Kass, CEO and Dr. Nai Hong Li, Co-Founder and CTO. mOasis is currently conducting field trials, managed by prominent agriculture scientists, that have already produced promising results.

Inventys has developed an energy and capital-efficient technology for capturing carbon dioxide from industrial sources. The company's proprietary process is less than one-third the cost of existing industrial CO2 capture technologies and will enable the widespread adoption of carbon capture and sequestration. The company is led by CEO Andre Boulet and fellow co-founders Brett Henkel, Soheil Khiavi and Darryl Wolanski. Inventys is building an in-house pilot unit capable of capturing multiple tons of CO2 per day from a natural gas power generator by late 2012 and will be deploying field units with major industry partners in 2013.

Roger Strauch, Chairman of The Roda Group, said, “As was the case with Solazyme, The Roda Group is enthusiastic and proud to invest in talented and passionate people who look forward to developing and selling products that address enormous market opportunities while helping the world build a more sustainable and healthy environment and food supply. We believe that mOasis and Inventys will fundamentally advance the way we grow food and produce energy, respectively.”

California real estate opportunities attract Asian investors - PRWeb

Springfield, IL (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

The 2nd Chinese Investment in the US Real Estate Forum is to be drawing U.S. real estate developers, property owners, financial advisors, attorneys, investment bankers, and industry executives, and venture capitalists, among others, to be educated on the latest happenings in China-US real estate investment. The June 21, 2012 event, which will take place in Los Angeles, will be centered on real estate investments pouring in from China. Rapid growth in the Chinese economy has created a strong demand for the US real estate market. The number of wealthy Chinese is growing at 9.7% annually, according to the GroupM Knowledge - Hurun Wealth Report 2011. Additionally, Merrill Lynch and Capgemini’s Asia-Pacific Wealth Report 2008 shows that in 2007, high net-worth individuals in China placed 21% of their assets in real estate versus a worldwide average of 14%. The preference the wealthy Chinese show in real estate, along with the current drop in housing prices and a steady RMB, have made real estate investment in the U.S. more appealing than ever before.

In the U.S., the Chinese are now the second-largest foreign buyers of homes, behind Canadians, accounting for $7.4 billion of sales in the 12 months ended March 2011, up 24% from the previous 12 months, according to the National Association of Realtors. Buyers from China and Hong Kong also spent $1.71 billion on commercial property in the U.S. in 2011, more than quadruple their investment in 2008, says Real Capital Analytics. Chinese investors are interested in commercial projects, residential properties, hotels, golf courses, clubs, land, industrial warehouses, office buildings, and shopping centers. The Forum aims to help U.S. companies and individuals tap into more of this Chinese capital.

This year’s day-long event will feature some of the most experienced and knowledgeable individuals in the real estate industry. Scheduled speakers include Mr. Brian Su, CEO of Artisan Business Group, Inc. Mr. Guy Maisnik, Attorney and Partner Jeffer Mangels Bulter & Mitchell LLP (JMBM), Mr. Bernard P. Wolfsdorf, Managing Partner & Attorney, Wolfsdorf Immigration Law Group, Mr. David Appel, CPA & Senior Partner, Marcum LLP and Mr. Kevin Wright, President, Wright Johnson LLC Marcum LLP., and others

Next Generation Rail Supply Chain Forum Scheduled to Generate Business Opportunities for California Manufacturers

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- California Manufacturing Technology Consulting® (CMTC) and The Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence (MANEX) announced today a special complimentary one-day forum to connect rail industry OEMs with U.S. suppliers in the manufacturing sector. The “Next Generation Supply Chain Connectivity Forum” will be held on February 8, 2012 at the Woodlake Hotel (formerly the Radisson) in Sacramento, CA. The Northern and Southern California Manufacturing Extension Partnership Centers, Manex and CMTC, are joining with the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Rail Administration, the U.S. Department of Commerce and CALTRANS to reach out and help facilitate connections for manufacturers in the State. The Forum is for manufacturers who are interested in growing their business by considering opportunities in the rail industry supply chain.

The Next Generation Rail Supply Chain Forum allows manufacturers the opportunity for one-on-one discussions with OEMs and to learn more about entering the rail industry supply chain in panel discussions. The forum concludes with a networking reception.

This Forum is the result of a partnership between the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to leverage agency capabilities to ensure the development of a domestic supply base to support intermodal transportation in the United States. The Forum is designed to attract U.S. manufacturers to the supply base for next generation rail equipment being procured in the U.S. The Forum represents an opportunity for manufacturers with capabilities that are potentially relevant to next generation rail to grow and diversify into this market.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded two grants to CALTRANS for a total of $168M (matched by $42M in State funds) for the purchase of 42 passenger cars and 6 locomotives. The new bi-level railcars will incorporate numerous design improvements and innovations, making the States’ rail passenger service more efficient, cost-effective and attractive to passengers. The CALTRANS RFI can be accessed from CMTC’s website.

“In this economy, it is vitally important for manufacturers to diversify their business into new areas to support growth in the State,” stated Jim Watson, President and CEO of CMTC. “Manufacturing plays an important economic role in the State’s economy since California has the largest concentration of manufacturers in the nation,” added Hank Holzapfel, President and CEO of Manex.

CMTC and Manex are private, nonprofit organizations that are part of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and are affiliates under the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
