MISSOULA- The Montana State Plan on Aging says that by 2025 a quarter of the population in Treasure State and the growing number of seniors means a steady stream of business for some.

"There's a definite need in Missoula, we are growing by leaps and bounds. Our senior population is amazing," Marilyn Allen explained.

She sees the senior population growing on regular basis as she helps seniors transition from their homes into more manageable places, and with people living longer, she may be helping a senior parent and a senior adult child.

"There are 90 year olds who have been in their homes for many, many years. Their adult children are senior citizens and that's a very emotional situation when they've been in their homes that long," says Allen.

Local businesses, agencies and facilities started getting together over five years ago and formed the Senior Options and Services and the members of that group have more than doubled.

Caring for our ever-expanding aging population is catching on.

"Any business out there that helps to provide services to seniors is probably thriving right now because the need for assistance doesn't go away," Home Instead Missoula Franchise owner Denise Krueger said.

Home Instead provides non-medical care for seniors in their homes and Krueger says more and more Montanans are staying put.

Native Montanans want to stay in Montana, and they continue to age in place here and not want to move out-of-state elsewhere. So in Missoula and the surrounding area, there are a lot of seniors."

Denise and Marilyn see continued employment opportunity with that demand. "Just because I love what I'm doing and it's a service, but it is something that is very much needed and will continue to be needed," Allen concluded.
