The Business Finance Store Discusses Opportunities for Recent Grads to Start Their Own Business - San Francisco Gate

The Business Finance Store discusses how young entrepreneurs can seize opportunities and start their own business after finishing school.

Santa Ana, CA (PRWEB) July 01, 2012

Congress voted to extend the low 3.4% interest rate on federally subsidized student loans on Friday, just before the July 1st deadline that would have doubled the rate, CNN Money reported. The rates will apply to students taking out loans for the next school year. This is good news for those obtaining higher education. However, after graduation the idea of looming debt is particularly problematic for the many recent graduates who have trouble finding employment. However, there is one opportunity that many recent graduates overlook: starting their own business. In the recent blog post “The Benefits of Starting a Business After College,” The Business Finance Store discusses how young entrepreneurs can seize opportunities and start their own business after finishing school.

Given the nature of the job market and dwindling career opportunities in the United States, the appeal of starting a business fresh out of college may have never been higher. College grads are finding few opportunities to begin a meaningful career, so for new college graduates this might be the time to take matters into their own hands. Gold Solutions have announced an exciting new addition to their unique Business … - YAHOO!

As from the 1st July 2012 Gold Solutions are introducing a new gold plating ACADEMY for any new clients joining their Gold Plating Guild, the only such guild in the world.

(PRWEB UK) 2 July 2012

Ever since Gold Solutions started selling home gold plating kits for people to start their own low cost-high return businesses they have put over 2000 people from all over the world on the road to financial independence. In most cases, for less than £500 outlay, clients (Operators) have had all they require to generate in excess of £50 per hour - with no experience required whatsoever.

After gold plating was seen on BBC's Dragons Den, people have shown interest in this fantastic business - but few know anything about it. Now, with the additional benefit of the world's ONLY gold plating guild, formed by Gold Solutions purely to promote its Operators own businesses on-line, kit buyers receive all the help and assistance they require to build a successful business. They even provide professional training courses for those seeking to establish a first class business in the quickest possible manner.

Anyone wanting to give a totally unique gift now has only to contact one of the members of the Gold Plating Guild, from anywhere in the world, and they will have access to gifts that will have never been seen by most people - but at completely affordable prices. They can even enter their enquiry on the Guild website - and it will be submitted to every single member of the Guild.

The secret to the business potential lies in the fact that none of these 'gifts' are available in the high streets of Britain - even though tens of thousands sell the basic products, just not gold plated. This means that mobile phones, golf clubs, kettles, razors, and just about anything metal is now available through the Guild to everyone.

Terry George, founder of Gold Solutions 5 years ago says "in order to make the process of building a new business successful, and fast, we have now started an 'Academy' package for those more determined business minded people. In addition to them being automatically registered as a member of the Gold Plating Guild, all clients with 'Academy' status will be provided with weekly and active help from the support team.

A weekly telephone call will establish what the aims of the Academy Operator are for that week and a programme of aims and targets will be set and put into action. This will ensure that the business will have an infinitely better chance of succeeding."

With the advent of new products, services, marketing strategies, product sourcing and a comprehensive support package from Gold Solutions the future looks to be plated with 24k gold.

With video: African-American women find beauty, liberation and business opportunities in the coils of their hair - Detroit Free Press

Pregnancy motivated Gwen Jimmere to stop using chemicals to straighten her thick, curly hair.

"I was pregnant and I knew anything I put on my body goes to the baby," says Jimmere, 29, of Canton.

Reading this story on a phone or tablet? Click here to see the video.

She had tried wearing her hair without a chemical straightener a decade earlier. But the fervor for the afros of the '60s and '70s was long over, and there was little information or encouragement on how to pull off a natural style.

Most black women, like Jimmere, were perming, hot-pressing or flat-ironing their kinky, curly hair. Straight hair -- better still, long straight hair -- was the way to fit in, the way to be pretty and conform to the standard of American beauty.

Fast-forward to 2011 when Jimmere chose to set her own standard by rocking her hair in all its natural glory. This go-round, she found an abundance of support -- meet-ups of women wearing natural hairstyles, books on natural hair care, celebrities talking about their stylish, natural dos.

But perhaps the biggest signifier of the current natural hair movement is found online. A community of women created a virtual pulpit for natural hair that includes social forums, video instructions, tutorials, product websites and personal testimonies.

It's not that black women aren't straightening their hair -- most still do. But a growing number of women of all ages are finding beauty, acceptance, liberation and business opportunities in wearing natural hairstyles like braids, locks, twists, knots, afros and various creations in-between.

"Women are sharing information on Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, everywhere. It's endless," says Espy Thomas, 31, of Detroit, who with her sister Jennifer, 29, hosts periodic natural hair meet-ups that attract hundreds of women.

"More and more black women are opting to wear their natural hair and discontinue use of relaxers," says a 2011 Mintel report showing that from 2006 to 2011, the sales of relaxer kits dropped 17% to $38 million. The trend is "expected to continue," the report states.

Mintel is a global market research company. A consumer study it conducted showed that the percentage of black women who said they wore their hair natural jumped from 26% in 2010 to 36% in 2011.

"The shift from relaxed to natural is becoming so common that it has spurred growth of a whole new subsegment of products for women who are 'transitioning,' with products that minimize breakage as hair transitions from chemically straightened to curly or kinky," the report states.

It's also a booming business, says Sue Silva, marketing director for the Sofn'free, a hair care line. "Everybody in the business is starting to manufacturer a curly line," she says. And not just for African-American women.

"Our target is 70% African American and 30% other. A lot of other women -- Jewish, Latina and redheads who tend to have coarse, wiry, coiled textured hair -- are interested in these products. Caucasian women have curly hair, too."

She noted that Target, one of the nation's largest retailers, now has a section devoted to natural hair products in most of its stores. And several of those products are produced by companies owned by black women, including Miss Jessie's and Taliah Waajid.

Sharon Madison, president and CEO of the engineering firm Madison, Madison International in Detroit, went natural after chemicals made her hair weak and caused it to break off nearly 15 years ago.

"I wanted to symbolize that whether or not you're in business, in the arts, whatever your field, you can be yourself, and we have beautiful hair," Madison says.

Much to her surprise, people in the corporate and civic circles she frequents complimented her hair.

"I think the issue is for us to embrace ourselves and recognize our own beauty," says Madison, 58.

She knew she'd made the right decision when she got a treasured compliment a few years ago at a gala of the Friends of African and African-American Art at the Detroit Institute of the Arts.

"Sidney Poitier told me my hair was gorgeous," Madison says.

Women are going natural for many reasons, including the desire to live a healthier lifestyle in general, growing pride and appreciation for one's own hair, more celebs -- Viola Davis at the Oscars and Solange Knowles at the Met Ball in New York City -- signaling that natural hair is in and beautiful.

There's also more variety and creativity in styles, says Mo Williams, who works in a barber and beauty salon where she's the only natural stylist.

"More people see it can be funky or appealing even in the corporate world," says Williams, 24, who works at Little Willie's Hair Salon in northwest Detroit. "People no longer think you have to have hair straight or laid down to be attractive."

Several women also say natural hair allows black women to be more physically active. Moisture from sweat, rain or pool water can cause some black women's straight hair to bunch up or tightly curl, requiring extra time to restyle.

"I can go the gym, I can get in the pool and not be concerned about my hair," says Jennifer Thomas, cofounder with her sister of the Detroit meet-ups. "I don't have to run from the water when it rains."

Whatever the reason, women say they experience a sense of liberation after going natural.

"It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I felt free," says Jahzara Swyer, 30, of Detroit who has been wearing natural styles for 12 years. Her daughter, Naja, 6, and son, Menelik, 9, wear locks.

"I just couldn't take the pressure of maintaining my roots, always getting a perm to make sure my edges were perfectly straight. I needed to be me."

More Details: Many different looks

Two-strand twists: Intertwines two sections of hair to form loose twisted strands.

Cornrows: Braids that lay on the scalp and that are designed to form various shapes.

Sisterlocks: Super-thin, uniform, rope-like locks formed with a crochet-like needle. They can be styled many different ways.

Better Business Bureau Warns Employment Seekers to Look for Red Flags During their Summer Job Search - Tucson Citizen

Many students are off for summer break and find themselves searching for temporary work. Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona is warning high school and university students looking for work this summer to avoid common job scams.

“Many students seeking summer jobs may have little to no previous work experience, And are tempted to apply for jobs that require limited work experience but offer high salaries,” said Kim States, BBB President. “However, the reality is these offers may be scams rather than legitimate work opportunities.”

Ads are posted everyday in newspapers and on the Internet that promise “Summer jobs; make $300 a day” or “last year our employees made $10,000 over the summer”. The intent of these ads generally is to gather personal identity information or to get money from job seekers.

Here are 10 tip-offs that the “employment opportunity” could be a scam:

1. Big bucks for simple tasks. Watch out if they promise to pay you a lot of money for jobs that don’t seem to require much effort or skill. If it sounds too good to be true, it might be a scam.

2. Job offers out of nowhere from strangers. If they offer you a job without getting an application from you, meeting you, or doing an interview, it’s probably a scam. Don’t hand your personal information, especially your Social Security Number or credit card information to such people. This could lead to identity theft.

3. Requests for up-front payments. If someone wants you to make an advance payment to partake in a new business opportunity – especially if it’s a big investment, or you don’t have much information about the deal – this is a red flag. “Advance fee scams” are very common and they come in many varieties.

4. They ask you to wire the money. If you wire a payment to somebody, it’s gone forever. Wire transfers of money are a convenient and perfectly legitimate service. But scam artists often ask you to wire payments that they are requesting (especially to destinations in other countries) because they know you won’t be able to get your money back.

5. High pressure to do it now. Don’t be in a hurry to accept an unsolicited offer of work, or to make a business investment, particularly if the other party is asking you to spend your money on the deal. Take your time and check it out. If somebody tries to convince you that this is a “limited time” offer and you have to act now, just tell them to forget it. High pressure is a common sign that something’s wrong.

6. Refusal to give you full details in writing. Ask for complete information in writing. Look carefully at any documentation they might provide to make sure it answer all your questions. If they won’t give details, or don’t respond to questions, don’t do business with them.

7. References are missing or a bit suspicious. A real business should be able to give you professional references, ask for references and check them yourself. Even if the references seem good, don’t make your decision based on references alone. Do a careful background check; free Business Reviews are available at www.tucson.bbb.org

8. Contact information is missing or doesn’t make sense. Be very cautious if a company is trying to get you to accept a job, but seems to lack any established physical location with a real street address. A cell phone number and website address are not enough contact information. If there is an address, it’s worth taking a moment to check it out on the Internet.

9. They want you to buy expensive items. Be cautious if they expect you to make a major purchase of equipment, software, inventory, or information in order to get started in business. It seems like it might be a real business opportunity – but it’s not; the buyer makes the purchase and never receives the things needed to set up the business.

10. It has a bad rating with the BBB! Victims do complain to the BBB about work at home scams. It only takes minutes to check a company’s record with us at www.tucson.bbb.org

Your BBB can be reached 24/7 at our website www.tucson.bbb.org. For more valuable tips, visit our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/soazbbb.

New grads and their first opportunities - Star-Press

I recently had a conversation with my youngest son, Luke, who is living in Florida where he is doing two years with Teach for America as a high school teacher.

The purpose of his call was to get my advice on his opportunity to participate in his employer's 403(b) retirement plan. He had a very vague understanding of how the plan works, its benefits to him, and what he should do, if anything. He asked many questions that I was able to answer. Before we ended our call he thanked me for helping him to understand all of the options he had, and for guiding him in this process.

As parents, grandparents, and family friends of those graduating from high school, college or technical schools, we have a unique opportunity and, I believe, a responsibility. Upon full-time employment, these young adults are often presented, for the first time, choices about health insurance coverage, group life insurance and retirement plan participation, among other possibilities. They have no experience as a frame of reference on these issues. As older adults, many of us do. In my practice, I frequently advise young adult clients or the children of my middle aged clients on these issues when asked to do so.

As an adviser or as a family member, it is very important to understand and, advise accordingly, how the best choices are a function of current age, family responsibilities, and employment timeline. Let me address an example of what I mean. The investment choices of a 23-year-old would probably not be the same of an individual of age 55 or 60 due to the number of years to retirement. But, if an individual such as my son knows they are only going to be working with a given employer for a short period of time, then the choices may not be what we would customarily recommend for such a young man because he will be leaving employment and needing and/or desiring to move his account balances to another personal or employer plan in less than two years.

Another example is the decision of what plan of health insurance to sign up for when multiple options are available. The young adult needs to weigh their ability to come up with a high deductible out-of-pocket amount in the event of a major health claim against the advantage of the lower premium associated with a high deductible option. What are their resources for paying this high deductible, and can the parents, if desired, serve as a backup if this need arises?

Each young adult's situation, and the decisions to be made, can be overwhelming. Too often they make no choices because they don't have the knowledge or skills to make them. Because of this reality, opportunities can be missed which can be detrimental to their current and future financial well-being. Children do not learn financial knowledge and understanding randomly or simply by living in the same household with a person who has this knowledge. We need to be talking with our children, and exchanging ideas with them, about making prudent financial decisions and the financial risks associated with not doing so. If you are not comfortable with this job, find an adviser to have these discussions with your children.

Gold Solutions introduce a whole new range of gold plating kit packages to their business opportunity website - YAHOO!

They now have a selection of gold plating kits that include a 'live' bespoke website designed specifically for customers seeking a complete business start-up package

(PRWEB UK) 29 March 2012

After establishing themselves as the no.1 supplier of basic DIY home plating kits for people to start small businesses in Europe, Gold Solutions have now moved in to the market of supplying more serious minded business opportunity seekers a complete start-up package.

Terry George of Gold Solutions said "We have been aware that other suppliers in this field have been selling 'complete' packages for some time, but that they were vastly overpriced. I have seen them selling for between £2000 and £3000, which for a franchise is OK but this is a business that is just not franchise-able.

We have put together a combination of our top of the range kit, a custom designed 'live' website with the clients own choice of domain name, full Founder Member status to our exclusive Gold Plating Guild website, and topped this off with a special 2 day in-house training course (including overnight accommodation) for just £899. This will ensure that every area of the business is well covered for the benefit of the client - and has saved them at least £1000"

This is just the latest phase in Gold Solutions strategy of both bringing gold plated everyday items to the high street (iphones/ipods etc), and giving thousands of ordinary people the opportunity to generate a good full or part time income without having to spend a fortune.

Their recent campaign of offering reduced cost training courses for anyone who is thinking about entering this lucrative business has been so successful that they have continued it for yet another month. Terry George again "it is very satisfying to have so many people wanting to know more about gold plating before they buy, and rewarding when so many do buy"

They have also re-launched their unique Gold Plating Guild website, which is the first one of it's kind in the world, allowing any member of the public or company seeking a gold plating service/product to contact ALL of the Guild members - at the touch of a button. Anyone seeking an electroplating service - anywhere in the world - can now, instead of selecting a 'random' supplier from the internet, let EVERY member of the Guild know what they are looking for and receive several replies from just one message.

Antiques and Collectibles: Business showcase their buildings' roots - Post-Bulletin

As a means of preserving a piece of history, business owners are increasingly interested in setting up shop in old, unique buildings. Many of these business owners also are restoring these buildings just enough to be functional, but they still leave an impression of the former business that used to occupy the building.

Some of these buildings once were gas stations, where a garage door may be used as an entry. Or maybe the building once housed a bank and is the current home of a bakery.

Because of the uniqueness of these old buildings, some who run businesses out of them take the opportunity to showcase the building itself. At the Catch My Thrift consignment shop in Stewartville, Stacy Hanson says she worked to retain some of the history of her shop, which once was a bakery.

“The inside back was changed to conform to my needs by my landlord," she says, but "if I can remember correctly, the back where most of my store is was added by my uncle Jerry Allen, the former building owner.
