GSBF 2012 to focus on new market opportunities in ASEAN - Channel NewsAsia

SINGAPORE: For the first time, a select group of Singapore enterprises will be opening their Indonesian operations to a delegation of 30 German and Singapore enterprises.

This is part of the activities for this year's biennial German-Singapore Business Forum (GSBF).

In a media release, SPRING Singapore said more than 100 delegates from Germany and Singapore have gathered in Singapore for the forum held from July 3 to 7.

The GSBF is a key platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from both countries to network, exchange ideas and identify collaboration opportunities.

This year's forum aims to tap the knowledge and expertise of Singapore enterprises to explore new growth potentials and market opportunities in the ASEAN region.

For the first time, Singapore enterprises like YCH Logistics, Sanwa Group and CEI Contract Manufacturing, with regional operations in Jakarta and Batam, will open their facilities to the delegation keen to explore growth potentials and market opportunities in Indonesia.

"As the world is shifting its interest to Asia, especially the emerging markets for the business opportunities it offers, our SMEs are well-positioned to be key partners to German Mittelstands looking to expand into the region. The deeper and more strategic partnerships will fuel the growth of German and Singapore SMEs for long-term economic growth," said Mr Philip Yeo, Chairman of SPRING Singapore, who has been the Singapore GSBF co-chair since 2007.

SPRING Singapore said this year's forum will focus on fostering collaborations in three key sectors: Precision Engineering, Medical Technology and Environmental Technology.

ACT-IAC Announces A New, Revamped Focus for the 32nd Annual MOC - Marketwatch

FAIRFAX, Va., May 01, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) today announced the agenda for the 32nd annual Management of Change (MOC) 2012. MOC 2012 will bring together more than 500 government and industry information technology managers and rising professionals for an education and training event that will be more technology-driven and interactive than in previous years. With the changing environment surrounding the government IT community, MOC 2012 will look to keynote speaker and noted futurist Nick Bilton to discuss ways IT professionals can adapt. Set for June 3-5, MOC will be at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge, Md.

"Times have changed in government IT, and our education and training must change as well," said Maria Horton, MOC industry chairperson. "This year's MOC will be the next logical step in the evolution of this event. We set out to be more inclusive in order to attract a greater audience. We hope to provide a forum for young, up-and-coming change agents to discuss solutions to the most complicated, critical technical issues facing the federal community today, with a focus on bringing new ideas to the forefront."

The event will feature several "unconference" sessions that will promote a greater degree of interactivity and open communication between government and industry, which will allow more voices to be heard while discussing the hard topics. MOC will give attendees an opportunity to network with peers, share best practices, earn continuing education credits and be equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex IT acquisition environment.

"We're really looking to get straight to the heart of the issue on topics such as security and mobility," said Angela Miller, MOC government chairperson. "Part of that is having an interactive education event where we can focus much more on promoting the public-private partnership for which ACT-IAC is so well known. It's more critical than ever that we stay on top of these issues."

This year's MOC will also feature an Innovative Technology Expo. As part of an effort to provide advice and information about IT beyond 2012, the Innovative Technology Expo will showcase solutions that may only now be in a pilot or beta version test within government. These technologies might also only be in the commercial sectors, supporting new methods or new processes. The primary goal of the Technology Expo is to identify and bring new technologies to government and industry.

Bilton, the lead technology writer for the New York Times Bits blog, will be the keynote speaker, and the education and training event will feature three tracks:

-- "Linked" In -- This track will focus on the mobile and social nature of communication and how that affects business. The track will consist of sessions on mobile identity management, the inherent risks of conducting business over social media and the implications of constant connection.

-- The Consumerization of Federal Mobility -- Focusing on the implications of an increasingly mobile federal workforce, this track will feature sessions on the return-on-investment of mobile device life cycle management, sharing the quick wins of mobile strategies and mobile applications.

-- Cloud Connections -- With the increased usage of cloud technology pervasive throughout the federal marketplace, this track will include sessions on the differences of digital natives' needs, the coordinates of the cloud and operationalizing FedRAMP.

A new focus on start-up companies - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

An important strategy for job growth in Wisconsin is increasing our support for high-potential entrepreneurs and the businesses they start and grow. Wisconsin's dedication to keeping our best and brightest talent and business growth opportunities within our borders is seeing some early positive results. But while we make progress, there is still much more we need to do to support entrepreneurial business growth in the state.

Other states throughout the United States are actively developing support and investment programs recognizing that almost all net new job growth comes from new companies. They are competing with Wisconsin to develop their entrepreneurial ecosystems to attract and retain talent and jobs to build industries and economies for the future.

Wisconsin had the fourth-best improvement in entrepreneurial activity in the nation in 2011, according to the Kauffman Foundation's annual index of entrepreneurial activity, moving Wisconsin from 47th to 40th in the performance of starting new businesses.

Wisconsin also dramatically improved its ability to incubate businesses, moving up to 29th among all states from 43rd in 2010, according to an annual competitiveness measure released by the Beacon Hill Institute.

While these improvements are solid indications of the improving climate in Wisconsin for new business starts, all measurements of our state's competitiveness identify the need for increasing the availability of much needed capital for seed, early and mid-stage companies. Gov. Scott Walker and legislators on both sides of the aisle recognize that we need a proactive, strategic and rapid approach to increasing this investment capital to spur high-growth, entrepreneurial business and job growth opportunities.

To accomplish that, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. is proposing for the coming legislative session early next year to repurpose a portion of unused investment tax credits previously authorized in a creative and high-impact way.

The Wisconsin Angel & Seed Acceleration Program - or ASAP! - will be leveraged with private-sector investments to significantly increase funding to talented entrepreneurs in a much more timely manner than what presently exists. Rather than grants, the leveraged co-investment from ASAP! will be in the form of equity with profits returned directly to the state. This will facilitate a much more efficient path to getting promising opportunities launched and growing.

WEDC will continue to pursue broad policy initiatives that in clude ASAP!, along with a venture capital-level strategy to support emerging early- and mid-stage companies by providing expansion capital for when companies have proved their products and markets and have begun ramping-up manufacturing and shipping goods to customers.

The WEDC, created last year through Walker's job growth initiative, has a comprehensive strategy for fostering start-ups and spurring investment in growth-oriented businesses, especially in high-tech and other high-potential industries, where accelerated job growth and high job multipliers are most likely to occur.

One tactic includes aggressively utilizing the successful Angel Investment and Venture Capital Tax Credit Programs to encourage investment into high-tech businesses that have strong growth potential. Since 2005, 195 entrepreneurial companies have been certified to receive tax credit for their investors. This has leveraged more than $163 million in private-sector investment into those companies creating over 900 new jobs in our state.

WEDC also utilizes the Technology Development Loan Program, which supports companies through their research and development and provides funds targeting the commercialization of innovative technology products. These programs, tied with others that support new and expanding businesses, have all helped to change the course in Wisconsin to a place where entrepreneurs can have confidence in starting and building companies for the future.

WEDC is taking other innovative steps to support new business growth, such as partnering with VETransfer, Inc., a one-of-its-kind incubator/accelerator based in Milwaukee to help Wisconsin veterans start businesses. WEDC is also developing plans to support technology accelerators to provide businesses model training and knowledge that entrepreneurs need to create a sustainable and profitable businesses.

Wisconsin is positioned for continued success for entrepreneurial growth. We have the entrepreneurial spirit. We have tremendous research and idea development through our academic systems. We have a growing angel investment community and entrepreneurial support network. We have the capability for innovative leadership through the WEDC and its partners throughout the state. And we have an improved business climate.

The time is right for Wisconsin to step up its investment in our innovative and high-potential entrepreneurs. The return potential is great through job creation, added tax base, growth in our state's GDP and financial return on investments made directly back to the state. The WEDC is taking a leadership role in making Wisconsin a great place to launch and grow innovative businesses. We look forward to collaborating with our partners throughout the state as we continue to make improvements in our business climate and realize our potential as a leader in creating opportunities for our citizens.

Paul Jadin is chief executive officer of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

Branstad: Iowa business leaders put focus on growth - Des Moines Register

Vision is what keeps Iowa at the forefront of economic growth and progress.

To this end, I recently named 18 top business leaders to lend their expertise and vision to Iowa?s economic development efforts.

The Iowa Partnership for Economic Progress board is set to meet for the first time this month as Iowa reshapes its approach to business growth. The board is charged with developing a comprehensive economic development strategy for the state.

These private sector business leaders will help the state better understand opportunities for job creation as we work toward my goal of creating 200,000 Iowa jobs and raising family incomes by 25 percent.

Membership of the partnership board spans Iowa industry and includes executives in the financial services, advanced manufacturing and technology sectors, among others. Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds and I will serve as co-chairs of the board, and Iowa Economic Development Authority Director Debi Durham will serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member, as will other state economic development officials.

Linking the public and private sectors will allow us to tap the vast knowledge of Iowa?s business leaders in attracting, expanding and retaining high-paying jobs in the state. I think you would agree, Iowans are lucky to have some of the smartest minds in business willing to lend their time and business savvy to fueling Iowa?s economic growth.

Iowa has made gains in important industries. The biofuels, wind energy, information technology, and advanced manufacturing sectors have made advancements that led to new, high-paying jobs. We need to ensure that Iowa?s home-grown businesses and companies locating here continue to have a chance to thrive.

Encouraging start-ups is also an important part of the equation. Entrepreneurs who will create the jobs of the future need to find a favorable environment in Iowa. Support systems have been put in place to help launch start-up businesses here, and we will continue to look for ways to smooth the pathway for emerging companies by linking them with capital, investors and mentors to help them create the high-paying jobs of tomorrow.

As the nation emerges from the economic downturn, Iowa is one of a handful of states revamping its economic development programs to take advantage of the rebound. We are constantly fine-tuning our efforts to drive growth, thriving on innovation. The new partnership board and the restructured Iowa Economic Development Authority will make us even more nimble in our efforts to bring jobs to Iowa.

It is in that mindset that Iowa has gained a national reputation as a great place to do business and earn a living. CNBC recently credited Iowa with having the lowest cost of doing business in the nation. Iowa placed ninth overall in its 2011 ?America?s Top States For Business? ranking. Our economy placed fifth overall, and we scored in the top 20 in education, quality of life, business friendliness and cost of living.

These high rankings come as no surprise to the Iowans contributing daily to the economic health of the state. We have long understood that innovation and forward thinking breed progress. To continue to capitalize on our opportunities for business growth, we need to be cognizant of current economic trends and future possibilities. Members of the partnership board will provide guidance and a real-time pulse of changing market forces.

Innovation and a commitment to growth are the hallmarks of Iowa?s economic progress. By creating a partnership between the public and private sectors, Iowa?s leaders will transform their vision of job growth into reality.

Kerry Finch Announces New Website To Focus On Regional Business Opportunities As Australia’s National Broadband ...

Australia’s many geographically isolated communities have long been deprived of fast and reliable internet access. With the rollout of the National Broadband Network sound new business opportunities for people in these communities are becoming viable. These are being highlighted through a new online resource: OBRA.com.au

(PRWEB) December 22, 2011

A new, and free, online resource that spotlights the business opportunities that will result from the rollout of National Broadband Network has today been announced by Australian marketing writer, Kerry Finch.

The Australian Government has set a goal that by 2020 the internet accessibility gap between businesses and households in capital cities and those in regional and rural areas will have significantly reduced. Once its new National Broadband Network (NBN) has been rolled out a whopping ninety-three percent of households and businesses across the nation will be able to access Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit/second, significantly faster than most of Australia currently receives.

Even those who don’t get the fibre optic network will still have significantly faster broadband Internet than is commonly available in Australia today (with speeds of around 12 megabits/second). This will enable each Australian family and business, no matter how remote, to gain full use of current Internet technology, whether it’s running an online business, streaming media for educational purposes, or the ability to watch favourite TV shows online.

Business Opportunities For Regional Australia

In launching her new website, Online Business For Regional Australia, internet marketer Kerry Finch is drawing on the expertise of her network of industry colleagues to highlight ideas for online businesses, as well as advising on how to get started.

“The first topic I’ve covered is Affiliate Marketing, because it is business model which just about everyone can learn, and startup for less than $50” explained Ms Finch. “And by investing less than $100 more, top notch training can be received on how to build a solid affiliate marketing business.”

She continued “There are so many opportunities for people in regional and remote Australia to work online as they receive access to the National Broadband Network. They can showcase and sell art, crafts, and inventions; they can promote regional activities, local tours and accommodation. They can provide services - graphic arts, virtual assistance, researchers etc - and new opportunities emerge every day.”

There is no charge to access Online Business For Regional Australia (OBRA.com.au). The site will contain information on training, tools (free whenever possible!), and techniques needed to create a successful online business.

Get Rich Quick Warnings

One of the features of Online Business For Regional Australia is that all products, services and training have passed the ethical and value-for-money standards that Ms Finch employs in her own business.

“The internet business world is full of people promoting push-button solutions, or ‘businesses in a box’ products, and very expensive training courses. Warnings against investing in these will be a continuing theme throughout my site - I have heard of way too many people who have thrown hard earned money away on these schemes.

“They have been seduced by slick on-stage presentations and persuasive sales copy. Being able to identify the snake oil merchants is so very important.” said Kerry.

The site is accessible right now, with a free download of Kerry’s dictionary of internet marketing terms, at obra.com.au

About Online Business For Regional Australia

Online Business For Regional Australia (OBRA.com.au) is a central information resource to help people living in remote, rural, and regional Australia to build online businesses, the right way.

OBRA will provide information on the training, tools, and business opportunities to help people to achieve their online business goals, and will help to identify those marketers who  profit from selling get-rich-quick products to unsuspecting consumers by employing well orchestrated and emotive sales pitches.

Only reputable, high level training programs and products will ever be recommended on OBRA.com.au, and, wherever possible, they will be created by Australians.  Aussies lead the world in many areas of online business and internet marketing.  They are true innovators in a me-too world.

About Kerry Finch

Kerry Finch leads the OBRA.com.au team in delivering up to the minute information on online business opportunities for regional Australians. An internet marketer herself, her core business focusses on the provision of writing services for a wide variety of businesses with an online presence – from mining and industrial sectors through to local tradespeople.

With established professional relationships with some of the most innovative and highly regarded internet marketers in the world, Kerry is in an ideal position to identify those training programs, services, software and tools that will be necessary for your business now, and in the future.
