Citing a business opportunity and "personal factors," Bill Hudak of Boxford, a Republican candidate in the Massachusetts 6th Congressional District, announced Monday that he would suspend his campaign for Congress for the balance of 2012 and set his sights on 2014.
“A business opportunity has presented itself to me, which in addition to my active law practice will involve substantial amounts of my time and effort for the balance of the year,” said Hudak.
Hudak’s decision leaves former state senator Richard Tisei as the presumptive Republican challenger to incumbent Democratic Congressman John Tierney.
Georgetown is among the communities in the 6th Congressional District, which is currently represented by Tierney.
“A run for Congress involves a full-time, focused commitment,” said Hudak. “While I can continue to raise awareness of issues and relish the opportunity to debate both of my opponents vigorously, supporters and donors have the right to expect that their efforts and money will be rewarded by the very best effort I can put forth. At this moment, I cannot honor such a vow.”
Hudak continued, “I started this race in July 2009 when Washington was ruled exclusively by liberal tax-and-spend Democrats who were more interested in mandating health insurance than improving the health of our country. While the Republican majority in Congress has slowed the bleeding, for three years Washington has continued to ignore the economic damage which the recession has had on the bank accounts of real people — with nothing but continued political squabbling by career politicians in sight.”
Hudak said his decision to postpone his race was exceedingly difficult, and that other personal factors involving his family are also involved. Hudak said that these issues would become non-factors by the end of the year, leaving Hudak with a stronger foundation from which to resume the campaign in the next cycle.
Hudak said the prospect of a primary race was not a factor in his decision.
“No, we need [a primary race] here in the 6th District,” he said. “In fact, the prospect of not following through and forcing Richard Tisei to be honest with his true record and motivation for running was one of my most difficult struggles in coming to this decision. I welcome the opportunity to debate the issues and will again in 2014 if he is still involved, because my supporters know that little will change if he is elected.”
Hudak continued, “In this district, people look to me as the only true conservative, standing tall for the unborn, the traditional family and true fiscal responsibility, and against the ‘bathroom bill,’ and I will continue to fight for these issues by supporting those who the party establishment have abandoned.”
Hudak specifically mentioned candidates Kim Incampo of North Andover, Carlos Hernandez of Saugus, and Rob Aufiero of Wakefield
“I heartily and openly endorse and ask my supporters to turn all of their attention for the next six weeks to help” Incampo, Hernandez and Aufiero, Hudak said.
Hudak concluded, “I need my supporters to know that I am humbled by the outpouring of support, offers to mobilize, donate and do everything possible to insure that we win this race, and we will — just two years later than anticipated.”
