Malaysian companies can realise benefits and business opportunities by getting beneath Big Data and cloud computing, said data protection solutions provider FalconStor Software Inc.

Speaking on May 31 2012, FalconStor Software South Asia regional director Simon Ng said it was time to hold an awareness and education session for Malaysian companies from all industry sectors to discuss Big Data and the importance of cloud computing.

"with the rapid rise of cloud computing, data analytics and Big Data, we are asked by customers to explain the technology and not jargon, and present the real insights into the storage world of Big Data and Cloud impact on their IT environment and daily operations," said Ng.

"In particular, safeguarding valuable company information by using a recovery process that is key based on a unified storage infrastructure to ensure any soft errors like data corruptions or OS (operating system) crash can be recovered based on any services, anywhere and anytime," he said, adding that a rest and test application was also essential to ensure availability and continuity of data, server, storage, infrastructures.

Ng said the company has gathered experts in Kuala Lumpur to uncover the basics and practical opportunities behind Big Data. "Despite all the hype created around Big Data there is no doubt that the need to cope with the aggressive growth of data, as well as to contend with the increased variety of data sources, is not only introducing a number of challenges for organisations, but also significant opportunities."

"Questions posed are whether organisations in this region ready to embrace Big Data Analytics and  What are the key challenges faced by end-users?" he said."There has to be an emphasis on heterogeneous cloud and storage consolidation and on the importance of recovery in the cloud based on the angle of fast, accurate and simple recovery on server storage virtualisation. In addition, CIOs need to test their confidence and trust on strengthened security on DR-as-a-Service (DRaaS) to help them jump on-board this cloud infrastructure."

A Malaysia Airlines' venture linked to airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) in Hyderabad, India, is set for greater business opportunities amid its strategic location and the growing aviation sector here.

Located at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, MAS GMR Aero Technic Ltd (MGAT) is just two hours away from all the major Indian metros and less than four hours away from all the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, which is an economic and political organisation of eight countries in southern Asia.

According to The Star, the facility has the capacity to service 60-80 aircraft a year and is the first third-party aircraft MRO facility of its scale in India.

"The current India-wide fleet is estimated at 410 aircraft and this number is expected to triple in the next 10 years, making the country a huge market for MRO business," MAS Aerospace Engineering (MAE)'s chief executive officer Azhari Mohd Dahlan was quoted, as saying at the launch of MGAT here yesterday.

It is understood that Asia-Pacific, China and India already account for a combined 23 percent of total MRO expenditure, equivalent to RM 29.6 billion. (ANI)

Explore Business Opportunities In India, Malaysian Firms Urged

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysian businesses have been urged to explore business opportunities in India as the country is the largest trading partner for Malaysia among South Asian countries.

Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSICCI) president Datuk V.K.K. Teagarajan said the bilateral economic engagement between the two countries is expected to get a further fillip after the full implementation of the India-Malaysia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA).

"CECA, that was inked on July 1 last year, is a free trade agreement which covers trade in goods and services, investment and economic cooperation that will open up new businesses between the two countries," he said.

He said Malaysia is the 21st largest investor in India with cumulative Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows from 1991 to 2008 valued at US$1.8 billion.

"In addition, about US$6 billion in Malaysian investmments are believed to be invested in India through the Mauritius route, notable among them are Maxis Communications in Aircel, Axiata in Idea Cellular Ltd, Khazanah with IDFC, Appolo Hospitals, Yes Bank and many more," Teagarajan said.

He was speaking at a news conference after a business delegation meeting between KLSICCI and India's Young Entrepreneur School at the Royal Selangor Club here today.

Also present were MIC deputy president and Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia Vijay K. Gokhale.

Teagarajan said total trade between Kuala Lumpur and New Delhi in 2010 was US$7.1bil (RM21.6bil).

Malaysian construction companies also have a large presence in India, having completed 52 construction projects worth US2.34 billion in India while 35 projects of similar value are under various stages of implementation, he said.

Among the successful projects are the Malaysian Airports Bhd (MAHB) partnership with GMR Group of India which completed an airport in Hyderabad in 2008 and the second airport in Delhi in July 2010, he said.

Meanwhile, Subramaiam said India' economy is rapidly growing at around nine per cent annually.

"India also has a large middle class of 450 million people, offering many business opportunities for Malaysia especially," he said.

He also expressed hope that the meeting between the Malaysian and Indian business communities would result in more joint-venture construction projects and other business opportunities.
