New Faces of Success (NFOS), an organization formed in January, is hoping to bring networking opportunities to the local area via workshops, networking events and business opportunity seminars. Tamica Williams, Lakisha Mitchell, Quinton Lambert and Chris Brown are all natives of Brunswick County who now work and live in Mecklenburg.
They also own their own businesses outside of their regular jobs. Williams is part of an Inc. 500 home based business named 5LINX. Mitchell owns an event planning business called Royalti, Inc. Lambert is owner of We Are One, a community based nonprofit that addresses social issues. Brown is an artist with Music Makers Entertainment. The four say they not only hope to grow their own businesses through NFOS but also help other local businesses tap into markets they may not have considered yet.
Williams said the idea to form the networking organization was a group effort but the catalyst for forming was devised when Mitchell’s father lost his job of 30 plus years. “My father had worked for a company for 31 years,” said Mitchell, “and all of a sudden he was let go because of the economy. He quickly found himself trying to find a job in a new and constantly changing workforce. I realized there were other people in the same situation he now found himself in. So the idea of networking just came to me. After we all discussed the idea, we felt like a structured setting that would allow businesses to network with each other was something that was needed in this area.”
They want to provide events where businesses and non-business owners can meet, share ideas, get training for jobs and eventually provide businesses with potential employees. They also hope to provide services for people who may have a business idea but are not sure how to develop it.
They plan on holding their first networking event on April 28, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m, at the Comfort Zone in South Hill. There is a cost for attending and the event will be open to the general public as well. To sign up you can visit their website at http://nfosnetworkingevent.eventbrite.com/.
