On one level, opportunities for women in business are brighter than ever in Asia. China, for instance, has the world’s largest number of self-made women billionaires. Funding appears to be more readily available than ever, too (see related story here).
Yet there are deeper social problems that hold women entrepreneurs back. Marjorie Yang, the chairman of Hong Kong-based shirtmaker Esquel, shared some interesting thoughts about this in an interview in her home in Shanghai during the Lunar New Year which appears in the latest issue of Forbes Asia. (Please click here for the interview.)
Esquel is a supplier to Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Polo Ralph Lauren. Yang and her family ranked No. 37 on the 2012 Forbes Hong Kong Rich List.
