Bank Of Italy Executive: LTROs "Business Opportunity" For ItalianBks

ROME -(Dow Jones)- Using the European Central Bank's LTRO liquidity shouldcarry no stigma and is a "business opportunity" for Italian banks, asalternative sources of funding are often most costly, Bank of Italy DeputyGovernor Fabrizio Saccomanni said Thursday.

Saccomanni said the three-year funding option from the ECB was aimed atdismantling "paralysis" in the medium-term funding markets. In such a context, "talking about stigma is meaningless," he said.

Bankers who warned of stigmas and boasted of not needing to use the LTROs "areperhaps just trying to be macho," he added.
