Kroger Named a Top 50 Company for Diversity

Diversity -->

The Kroger Co. has been named one of the Top 50 Organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunities in the U.S., the company's third year in a row to make DiversityBusiness.com's Div50 list.

The Div 50 was chosen online by more than 1.2 million women- and minority-owned business owners who voted on corporate and organizational buyers of diversity products and services in the U.S., according to a news release. This is the third consecutive year that Kroger has been so recognized.

"Kroger is honored to be selected as one of the top 50 companies for creating multicultural business opportunities," Reuben Shaffer, Kroger's chief diversity officer, said. "What makes this recognition so important to us is that the Div50 is directly selected by diversity business owners in the U.S."

Kroger currently spends more than $1 billion annually with diversity businesses, according to the release.

Kroger has more than 338,000 employees in 2,439 supermarkets and department stores in 31 states. The company's two dozen local banner names include Kroger, Food 4 Less, Fry's and Ralphs. The company also operates 796 convenience stores and 40 food processing plants in the U.S., among other operations.
