Small-business owners can find it difficult to get in front of the people making business purchasing decisions in major corporations and governments, says Oliver R. Singleton, president of the Metropolitan Business League.

But Friday, the league's Greater Richmond Small Business Expo and Matchmaker Event will bring hundreds of local small businesses together with corporate decision-makers and government procurement officers.

"This is an opportunity to get in front of both," Singleton said. "The decision-makers and the procurement officers will be at tables all around the room. It's a fantastic opportunity."

Large users of goods and services, whose purchasing decisions can profoundly affect the local economy, will be attending so they can diversify their supply chain, he said, noting that "small providers are often much more nimble than large ones."

Singleton also pointed out another benefit of the regional event: Small businesses' largest customers are one another, and the expo will allow them to meet face to face.

The event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Arthur Ashe Center, 3001 N. Boulevard.

Admission is $50 per person and exhibition cost is $500 per table. To register, go to www.thembl.org or call (804) 649-7473.
